Merc-Equiping a team
Hey all,
I'm in a rut here. I'm currently setting up a 12 person Merc team and I need ideas for equipment. For sidearms I am choosing Glocks. And I know that I'm going to need communications and body armor. What I am trying to set up is a unit that is capable of both urban jobs like the protection details you see in Iraq. and Rural jobs like hit and run attacks in a rainforest. The groups main areas of expertise is Southeast Asia, Central and South America. Normally I am better at this sort of thing but I'm drawing a blank here. |

Claymore mines
Infrared binoculars portable satellite dish (for long range coms)? man-portable oxy-acetalyne unit (for cutting bars. I see it being a metal container about 2 liters in size, with 30cm of rubber hoze to get the nozzle away from the bottle). crow bar lockpick set flouro paint spray can (marking doors, searched houses, target houses ...)

Available transport?
Max engagement range? Expected skill and equipment of opposition? Legal or contractual constraints on use of force? Need to remain covert? Need to blend or operate jointly with local forces? - C.

Currently it's motorcycles, civilian cars and SUVs.

The best rule of thumb is most common ammunition type and parts. Most common weapon? The AK, so equip your guys with those, body armor? Look to basic kevlar vests that any police force would stock and could be salvaged easily. Old cold war LBE's and equipment easily gained is the best equipment for long term use.

Sawn off shotgun, for door breaching.
Bean bag rounds for shotgun, for use against civilians or taking prisoners. Tear gas (non-leathal, provides concealment and is useful against civvies or the bad guys).

I agree with the comment about the AK. If you are behind WP lines, you are going to find ammo for the AK.
I would then look into food and water. How long is your projected mission? Are you SURE you have enough food and water for the mission and then some. (25% extra does not strike me as too much.) Then gas/ethanol/methanol for the mission. How far are you going? Got enough fuel for out AND back? And then some? If you are using methanol, is the still in good shape? Are you going to be in areas where there is enough natural sources for methanol? (Again, 25% extra is a good thing!!) I guess I have played too much D&D, TMP and other games where the winner was the one with the best logistics. Wizz bang toys are great...only if you can feed the beasts!!!! Always remember the first rule of combat. Murphy was a GRUNT!!!! My $0.02 Mike |

Remember folks this is for a Merc 2000 game not TW2K. Some things are not as applicable. others are just as handy.
Plus I found the following online. Lessons learned So I now have stuff to build off of. |

What about one of those "mobile road spikes" that police use to roll across the road and end high speed chases? Probably not legal, but could be useful in an urban environment. Just buying one could be fun!
Cyanide tablet, in case of capture/interrogation. Just issuing one to a PC might be enough to make them wonder what they have got themselves into!!! Forged passport/ID papers. emergency use, un-used mobile phone (one use, throw away). Stash of local uniforms (police, fireman, security guard).

40mm grenade launcher, with lots of non-lethal rounds (see shotgun, above), and some heavier stuff (HE, HEDP) held back, just in case.
flash-bang and smoke grenades, both hand and 40mm.

Chocolate bars for kids.
Cocain, US dollars or local currency for adult bribes.

Excellent idea but I'd say hard lollies and/or gum, chocolate isn't as durable (melts easily etc).
