The 1st CD just landed in Galveston, quietly.

After securing Galveston, building basic infrastructure and food production for itself and the small population that remained after the nuclear strikes and Mexican invasion, whats next?

What resources would you prioritize and how would you get them?

1 - Oil?
2 - Salt?
3 - Coal?
4 - Horses?

I would say oil. It is literally (semi)circled by oilfields. The local refineries (if anything survives) apparently were able to produce significant amounts of sulfur.

Oil has GOT to be the #1 priority. Followed by refining capacity. Even if the CD lands with T55's or T64's, you MUST have fuel and lubricants to keep those monsters able to move.

I was also wondering about building materials...

Concrete? Brick? Standard wood framing?

Would making concrete be a feasible option in the opening days or is it all existing or rubble built construction to start?

oil first for sure - getting production going again of lubricants and diesel fuel is key and the reason Texas is vital to US interests

after that getting food production going again - again oil can be used to get tractors moving again, making large scale farming possible

as for housing - there should be lots of building materials available to use for housing even if you have to scavenge them from damaged buildings

Once infrastructrure is in place, shelter, food, water, etc the next thing would be the most natural resource, the Oil Fields. The main problem would be parts for long shut down and most likely damaged facility's. I would bet good money more than half would be total losses to weather, fires, and looting of various kinds so many of those places would be stripped to get other oil fields working and pumping again. It would be even worse for the refinerys which need somewhat more specialized equipment to function 100% and would suffer just as much damage over the years from looters looking for fuel, weather, and people just going in and doing damage because they can. And lets not bring up the amount of power a Refinery needs to run or the ability to transport raw crude from the Oil Fields to the Refinery itself!

My story line helps address the "parts" portion of the refinery problem...

I was using the "Pennsylvania Crude" story from Challenge Magazine as a way to detail the process on a small scale in TX.

Horses,assuming food is abundant would be something that would take awhile to develop as well no?

The research is already done. Just a matter of pulling it from my database. It takes about 10 clicks.

It was originally developed for morrow project games where rebuilding would be a priority (theoretically).

I need to tweak a few things, (like i wanted to find the nearest limestone in regards making concrete as the sand and gravel is right there), but in its current form it is very useful.

Strangely the mine does not appear to be in the EPA database.
