Vietnam Veterans Day
Today is Vietnam Veterans Day in Australia, the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan.
Lest we forget.

Too many here in the US forget just how many Australians fought in the Vietnam War and the 500+ men who gave their lives there.

I served with a few who were on the ground that day getting shot at. All great men.

While I didn't meet any Long Tan vets, when I went through recruit and IET pretty much all my instructors were Vietnam vets, my father and one of my uncles were also. You'd always learn a bit extra from those guys that had been in Vietnam.

Just a reminder In the US army we had a "tour" of twelve months, the Australians had no such limit. My profound respect and Love goes to all of them and to you that come after. All hell let's get "pissed"

I do not know when the last Vietnam vet got out of the service, but I deployed with one in 03. Our only two star national defense soldier in the battalion. he was in a different platoon, but same company. I think he was the one who gave us the idea to "armorer" up our trucks, and as we still had WWII 5-tons had the old stock number for the armor kits they made in Vietnam. But in the infinite wisdom of the Army they sold all of them as scrap years before.
