Default OT: !#%*/ Spurs!

The local NBA team, the San Antonio Spurs, plays so well during the regular season that they almost always get into the playoffs by a wide margin. But if they lose just once in the playoffs, they almost always choke! Da**it! F*ckin Spurs!

Rant over, but do you have any local sports teams that have this sort of behavior?

Well as both a Cubs fan and a Buffalo Bills fan I have double the level of frustration you have - sometimes I wonder if I will ever see them win it all in my lifetime

Hey, Olefin, I'm a Cubs fan too! So, yeah, the Spurs have nothing on us.

I'm also an Arsenal FC fan so I know the feeling of being perennial also-rans, at least during these last 12 very frustrating title-less years.

As a Denver Broncos fan, I suffered through 3 badly lost Superbowls (I was too young for the loss to Dallas) before finally winning a championship. Since then, we've won two more, so I can't complain on the American football front.

Hang in there, Paul. It ain't over 'til it's over.

And Olefin, this is the year!

as long as Steve Bartman doesn't interfere with the play again

got to wonder what will happen this year - they do seem to come up with a new way to mess up each year - maybe they have finally run out of ways

Wow without a qb Denver will be lucky to go 8-8. And with Sanchez you will go 7-9. Better hope your D can score.

My expectations for next season are realistically low. The D is that good- see Manning's atrocious numbers from last season- but I don't think they can carry the team (again) to consecutive championships.

Not to say anything about the old (I'll be 54 the day after tomorrow), but Tim, Manu, and Tony are all old and repeatedly injured and not allowed to heal properly and fully. (I do know something about that.) Along with Kawaii Leonard, they're the core of the team. And the first three are already the subject of retirement rumors.

Oh well. At least we'll have a lot of money to throw at the salary caps...

Isn't sponsorship where most sports people make the majority of their money?
Sure their playing contract is worth a pretty penny, but nothing compared to what they get for spruiking the various products they've signed up to.

But not all athletes get endorcement deals. Avg players get a contract. Good players get good contracts. Great players get great contracts. And superstars get amazing contracts and Reebok or UA sponsors.

Take the Oilers. The NHLs basement dwellars. We have 2 legit superstars; 1 (Taylor Hall) has UA as a endorcement as well as his modest 5 mil per year salary. The other is the next Sidney Crosby in Connor McDavid and 1 year in and he has a .900K salary but with bonuses is near 3m.

Only thr great can get endorsements but those that do will make a ton more in cash from them than there salary.

Well I'm an Eagles fan and my wife supports the Dockers. Neither team is doing very well so far in the season but the Dockers are absolutely bombing. It's all a bit sad really.

hey at least you won the Stanley cup in 2009 - my Bills haven't been in playoffs since 1999 (and haven't won one since 1995)

laugh.. I grew up in the east bay of San Francisco and went to the Oakland Raider Camp as a high school kid.
Converted to the Broncos with Elway/Shanahan.... And then Manning .
But I love me D so I just think the Broncos just might get to the Division Champs yet again.\
D coach and the Staff get er done.

I grew up in Western/Upstate NY; hence, like Olefin, I am a Buffalo Bills fan. As such I have become accustom to pain and heartbreak. I'm just happy that they haven't had a losing season for the past two years.

Baby steps man... baby steps.

The Dockers lost again yesterday. Minor premiership winners last season to losing every game they've played this season. Abysmal. Sad wife is sad. Ah well, at least my team are in the top half of the ladder.

I'm a Buckeyes fan. Through the John Cooper era, we were in that category: contenders, but choking at the last game of the season. I can (not-so-vividly) remember getting seriously drunk as the #1 defense and #1 or #2 team in college football giving up 300+ yards in rushing. "Tackling, duh, what's that?"

Anyway, speaking of the Spurs here; they got thrashed 5-1 on the last day of the season, so finished third in the table, below North London rivals Arsenal.

My team, West Ham have ended 7th, so we just need Manchester United to win the FA Cup and we're in the Europa League next season.

Maybe they just need better dice rolls? Send them some new ten siders and a 20.
