Default Free growing Poisons?

I was first looking for medical herbs etc and the thought hit me....what about poisons!

So If anyone can provide with a list of freegrowing poisons in the US or anywhere basically...

poison mushrooms
poison ivy
others

animal posisons should have their own list imho.

What could a t2K character do with this info?

1 : When production of firearms/ammo is over. Any citizen conserned with security would turn to the alternatives...

- Blackpowder weapons
- bow and arrow
- spears
- basically any melee weapons
- perhaps even siege weapons

And if you have 100 archers with poison on their arrows - you have yourself a pretty decent low end army. Atleast the ammo is abundance

2 : Poison is like a kevlar-suit you'd rather have it and have no use for it than ,not have it and have use for it

I'd appreciate if said plants have their latin name - cheers

The problem with poison is that they're not a very good combat weapon - they're just too slow on the whole (with a few rare exceptions).

Slipped into somebodies morning coffee an hour or two before a big fight on the other hand and they're great "equalisers", but on weapons?

Perhaps a knife coated in something caustic which while not necessarily poisonous, will cause a lot of pain in a wound would be useful. Siege weapons flinging poison gas canisters, or even the old standby, a few dead cows, could be useful in a long, protracted encounter...

Poison Ivy in the US is a delayed action, relatively mild skin irritant. It usually only starts to itch after a day or so, and can take a week or more to disperse. Its a minor irritation in realistic terms, by no means would it have any significant effect on a PC's action in combat. It could be used to add color to a campaign. There are some people who have severe reactions, and if burned the inhaled smoke can be quite dangerous, but these are both extremely uncommon. (Unless you want to lace some rival's pipe tobacco with some dried poison ivy leaves!)

At the city college they actualy have a "poison garden."

Anything in the nighshade family is deadly.

There are several plants, I can idenitfy them on sight but their actual names I tend to forget. Next time I am there I'll walk thrugh it once more.
