OT: Request From Afghanistan
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I've received the following request from Afghanistan via The Army & Navy Club here in London: Books for Troops We have just received the following appeal for help from the chaplain with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan "Hi everyone - Hello from a rather cold Afghanistan. Could I make a request from the Chaplaincy here for the Royal Marines? We are asking for books and sweeties for the lads from supporters at home. There is a lack of books, and sweets always go down well. If you feel able, could you please ask among your friends if anyone has old paperbacks that the lads might like to read - anything really except Mills and Boon romances. Also sweets - the sort that come individually wrapped - like boiled sweets. Packets under 2kg are posted free from any UK post office . If you can help, please ask folk to post any of the above to, Rev Peter Scott, Chaplain, Cdo Log Regt Royal Marines, Bastion, BFPO792 . (Tell them not to write Afghanistan anywhere on the address ) Many thanks indeed. Peter" It seems like an excellent cause to me, and as I have a large number of books that have been read once, are never likely to be read again, and are mouldering in boxes because I lack enough bookshelves to set them all upon (my fantasy home includes a large room with enough shelves to store my purchases - my current home features few bookshelves and a large number of boxes packed away in the loft) I have picked out a few to send over in the next couple of days. I'd like to second that request, partly because its a great cause and partly because Peter is my cousin

Gosh, that's the kind of co-incidence that makes you wonder about the "Six Degrees Of Separation" between us all, particularly with the advent of the Net.
If your cousin is a member of the In & Out Club then I'm one of the people who helps ensure he has a supply of good things to drink when he goes there! Malcolm |
